Efficacy of antibiotic treatment in patients with chronic low back pain and Modic changes (the AIM study): double blind, randomised, placebo controlled, multicentre trial
Together with members of the AIM project group at Formi, Oslo University Hospital, (http://www.muss.no/prosjekt/antibiotic-treatment-patients-chronic-low-back-pain-modic-changes-randomized-controlled-trial-aim-study/) we have published the results from a health economy evaluation of antibiotic treatment versus placebo in patients with chronic low back pain and Modic changes.
Amoxicillin treatment showed no evidence of being cost-effective during one year follow-up. The majority of the total costs were due to production loss; costs due to healthcare had only a minor impact. This finding is in accordance with the main results of the AIM study, which was published in BMJ in October 2019;https://www.bmj.com/content/367/bmj.l5654
